The United Nations Association of Greater Milwaukee invites you To
WOMEN'S MONTH CELEBRATION
Saturday, March 9, 10 A.M.
Redeemer Lutheran Church, 19TH & WISCONSIN AVE.
Martha Collins of WILPF will speak on Cities for CEDAW: A Campaign to Make the Global Local. The U. N. CEDAW Treaty calls to action the elimination of discrimination of women in such areas as politics, law, employment, education and healthcare. President Carter signed it but the U.S. Senate never has ratified it. Martha is also on the Board of the Milwaukee Human Rights Committee. She, as a WILPF representative to the Human Rights Committee, is going to be advocating to pass city ordinances to establish the principles of CEDAW and make this global law a local one. She has introduced a resolution before the board with the principles of CEDAW. Once approved we have to get the ordinance passed and enforced to end discrimination of women in Milwaukee.
Tatti Curry is an international legal consultant who has worked at the United Nations, the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation and is currently working for USAID. She travels to conflict zones to help with legal consultation for aid projects. She is familiar with structural problems at the UN on gender perspectives and women's leadership. She will also be talking about the appearance of "femicide" in conflict regions, particularly in El Salvador , Honduras and Central American countries.
The ONE CAMPAIGN will also speak on the subject that women and children bear the brunt of poverty in the world.
